Welcome to The Composed Photographer

Death Valley from Dantes View

Hi, and welcome to The Composed Photographer. I have started this blog to discuss composition as it applies to photography and explore how we can master it which in turn will allow us to create better photographs.

With those lofty goals in mind, I hope to post articles every one or two weeks exploring elements of composition which I suspect will take me at least a year to go through everything I have come to know about composition.

In between those posts, I hope to post interesting little tidbits or fabulous examples of great compositions. Eventually, I hope to attract some very talented people to share their experience and knowledge with the followers of this blog.

I don't plan on reviewing equipment or doing Photoshop tutorials (except as a need to show how to bring out composition elements) or any of the standard fair of the typical photography magazine, website, or blog. I find there are plenty of people already doing that and I don't need to add to the mix.

From what I see, there is a huge gaping hole when it comes to the subject of composition and I believe there are many out there just as hungry as I for content concerning this under explored subject.

Whether you have designs on being the next greatest commercial photographer or just want to improve your personal photography this blog will be of great benefit. I'll stay decidedly away from the "Rules" and focus on the why composition works the way it does. And once we understand why we can apply it universally to all of our compositions.

Thanks and happy shooting,

Doug
